There was a pleasant surprise for local falconer Andy Bunting when he attended a meeting of East Sutherland Rotary Club recently.

The club had asked him along to give a talk about the history of falconry, the falcon display he undertakes at Dunrobin Castle and also a raptor protection project.

And afterwards Mr Bunting was delighted when club president Elizabeth Sweetman presented him with a cheque for £900 towards the development of additional facilities related to his enterprise.

Club spokesman Alistair Risk said: "Andy's talk was fascinating and look of surprise and appreciation on his face when he was handed the cheque was reward enough for the club members."

Mr Risk said the funding was also in recognition of the "wonderful support" given by both Mr Bunting and Dunrobin Castle to the Platinum Jubilee garden party held by Rotarians at the castle this summer.

"The club are now able to help those who helped with the garden party," he said.

The donation to Mr Bunting is part of a £11,400 package donated to 13 good causes throughout Sutherland and beyond by the club. Emergency services are among those to benefit.
