Shin Stores, of Lochside, Lairg, have given a huge boost to funds of the Sutherland branch of SSAFA, from the proceeds of plastic bag sales.

SSAFA – the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association – is a UK-wide organisation which helps serving and retired Armed Forces personnel, and their families, in time of need.

Jonathan Brett Young, of West Shinness, is one of the small team of SSAFA Sutherland volunteers. On a recent visit to Lairg’s Shin Stores, Jonathan was delighted to learn, from store proprietor Donald Munro, that Shin Stores has decided to donate £1000, raised from plastic bag sales, to help with SSAFA Sutherland’s local work.

Jonathan said: “Every SSAFA branch is responsible for raising all its own funds, and this can be quite a challenge. We are most grateful to Donald Munro and the team at Shin Stores for working to collect this money and donating it to us. Our small SSAFA Sutherland team do excellent work, one-to-one with local clients, but we are highly dependent on the generosity of local folk in keeping us going. This excellent donation will enable us to give direct financial support to needy ex-Service people and their families, exactly where it is needed in our local communities.”

If you can help SSAFA Sutherland, either by volunteering or in some other way, or if you need SSAFA Sutherland’s help, contact them by phoning 07585 030742 or emailing sutherland@ssafa.org.uk
