Plans lodged for replacement primary stack at Dounreay's Prototype Fast Reactor
Planning permission is being sought from Highland Council for a replacement primary stack at Dounreay's Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR).
In its application, Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd says the replacement structure will be required for the remainder of the decommissioning work in the PFR building, estimated at 20 years from now.
According to the planning documents, the work will involve a foundation supporting a new 37m high stack; pile foundations supporting a steel framework and new plant room containing an extract fan, filter units, stack sampling and control panels; pile foundations supporting a steel framework and new supply air handling unit with duct support structure; duct/pipe bridges and supporting foundations; and connections to existing internal PFR ventilation systems.
