A planning application has been submitted to Highland Council for the change of use of a section of an agricultural building on a croft at 22 Knockdhu, near Lairg.

According to papers lodged with the local authority, the building is sited near to the croft house and is currently used for general storage.

Plans show that the bunkhouse would accommodate two beds and a washroom and toilet facility would be provided in part of a separate shed nearby.

Scottish Water, a statutory consultee, said it had no objection to the planning application and there was currently sufficient capacity in the Savalbeg Water Treatment Works to service the development.

But the utility added there was no waste water infrastructure in the vicinity and the applicant should investigate private treatment options.

The Crofting Commission, which is also a statutory consultee, responded: “Generally the commission is supportive of developments on croft land where there is an operational need beneficial to the croft.”
