PICTURES: Whin Park pond in Inverness is now drained as work continues to clean up site

As these pictures show, the pond in Whin Park in Inverness is now standing empty.

Highland Council emptied it so that workers can complete a clean-up of the area and to manage and control an invasive non-native weed species found in the pond.

There are still patches of muddy pools and it has also been treated with a herbicide.

All aquatic life was removed by the Ness fishery board and released into the river.

However the council will now need to wait out the cold spell and treat it again with herbicide then, when conditions allow, the problem weed will be removed.

During the a small leak where water enters the pond but it was described as "minimal".

The project could be completed by the end of January.
