The beach cleans at Stoer and Balchladich were organised by young Ullapool environmentalist Finlay Pringle (15) under the umbrella of the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean which ran from September 16-25.

Finlay was helped by his mum and dad, Geoff and Rachael, along with other volunteers who cleared a total of 681kg of rubbish from Balchladich on September 17 and 18 and some 195kg from Stoer beach on September 25.

At Stoer the haul included 90kg of fish farm feed pipe, 25kg of fishing net and 90kg of smaller items such as twine, rope and bottles.

Highland Council senior countryside ranger Andy Summers organised vehicle access to the beach and the local authority provided a skip at Balchladich.

Finlay said it was the seventh big beach clean he had been involved with so far this year on three beaches with a total of 2,236kg of rubbish gathered.
