Teachers and children can often be seen taking to the hills and using nature to inspire their creative and scientific projects.

Teacher Ann McInnes said: “Learning in nature has been shown to have a positive impact on health and wellbeing, on stress management and the ability to self-regulate emotions.

“It also helps build self-reliance and confidence as well as team building and working with others, developing a sense of awe and appreciation of the world around you, the list goes on!

“In addition, learning through real-life experiences has been shown to be more effective and long-lasting.

"If you climb a hill and see a red kite or an eagle you will write a more enthusiastic poem about it than if you just watched a video of it.

“Having a sense of place and feeling of belonging is also an important part of a child’s development and being in the world around you and feeling the wind in your face is an important part of that."
