PICTURES: Remembrance Sunday parade and service at Brora

Brora’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations began with the traditional parade from Gower Street car park to Clyne War Memorial.

Piper Danny Parkin was at the head of the parade as it wound the short distance down Gower Street and onto the A9, which was closed for the duration of the service.

Representatives from the Church of Scotland, Free Church and Roman Catholic Church led proceedings.

The service was conducted by locum Church of Scotland minister Eleanor Gordon while Christine Port of the Roman Catholic Church read from the Gospel of John.

The singing was led by Angus Millar and David Roberts of the Free Church. Ricky MacDonald, also from the Free Church, said a prayer.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of Sutherland Lord Lieutenancy, the Army, Brora Community Council, Police Scotland, the Rotary Club of East Sutherland, Brora Rangers, 1st Brora Scout Group and Brora Primary School and Nursery.

Fiona Fraser and Sheila Macdonald laid a wreath on behalf of the families of those named on the war memorial.

Alistair Risk laid a wreath on behalf of the Rotary Club of East Sutherland. The club lays six wreaths every year at Brors, Dornoch, Golspie, Helmsdale, Lairg and Bonar Bridge.

Graham Charge of Culrain laid a wreath on behalf of the Royal Army Pay Corps and in memory of Sergeant Donald Kinnear, a member of the corps whose name is on the war memorial. Sgt Kinnear was killed during the 1991 Gulf War and his name was added to the war memorial. His mother, Olive Kinnear, was presented with the Elizabeth Cross, awarded to the next of kin of UK Armed Forces personnel killed in action after World War II.
