It was a bit of an artistic challenge but youngsters on the north coast showed they were more than up to the task.
A two-hour, family friendly creative workshop was held at Strathnaver Museum’s Annex in Bettyhill earlier this month when children who attended were invited to create ‘our world’. All the art materials needed were provided by the museum.
The event was held to mark Earth Day 2024 which falls annually on April 22 - today.
First held on the same day in 1970, Earth Day is now an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection and now includes a wide range of events coordinated by Earthday.org.
The official theme for 2024 was ‘Planet vs Plastics’.
The young people, who came from along the north coast, including Reay, Tongue and Skerray, enjoyed the ‘messy play session’, and used both paintbrushes and their hands to create a colourful array of artwork which were then displayed in the Annex.
Museum development manager Fiona Sutherland said: “We had a fantastic time at our messy play session and the children did a great job creating the world for Earth Day 2024.”
