A VOLUNTEER befriending service in Sutherland has organised a photographic exhibition to mark Befriending Week, which began on Wednesday, November 1, and runs until November 7.

North Coast Helping Hands is showing work by award winning Skerray-based professional photographer Mike Roper.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Mike has supported North Coast Helping Hands from the outset, giving freely of his time to capture our events.

“His repertoire is fantastically varied, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this exhibition.”

The exhibition 'Home and Away' is taking place at the Kyle Centre, Tongue.

Mr Roper said: “The pictures on display will be a mixture of my commercial work and images of local people and events.

“As you can imagine, over the years I have built up a large number of these, so as well as the prints on display, there will be a running slide show of images that didn’t make it to print.”

The befriending service is available to all adults in the Melness-Tongue-Skerray and Bettyhill area and provides support and companionship either by telephone or in a person’s own home. The theme of this year’s Befriending Week is ‘support’.
