PICTURES: Music, mulled wine, laughter and song at Golspie's Christmas lights switch-on

The run-up to Christmas has now officially begun in Golspie following Saturday’s fun-filled, family-friendly festive lights switch-on.

All the ingredients were in place at Fountain Road car park perfect yuletide event - there was music, mulled wine, laughter and singing.

Volunteers manned the food and wine stalls.

The guest of honour was well-known local resident Charlie Mackay who, accompanied by his wife Elma, pressed the button to switch on the lights.

And, of course, Santa and his entourage of elves stopped by. Also on hand were Mickey and Minnie Mouse, all dressed up in their Christmas best.

Members of Sutherland Schools and Sutherland Caledonian Pipe Bands played while the younger children from Golspie Youth Action Project sang. This was the last performance of the year by the Sutherland Caledonian Pipe Band.

There was a good turnout and the crowd getting into the spirit of the occasion, wearing antler headgear and Santa hats.
