PICTURES: More than 100 pupils from East Sutherland primary schools take part in first basketball tournament since the pandemic

A ROUND robin basketball tournament for East Sutherland primary schools took place at Golspie High School last month, the first since before the pandemic.

Fourteen teams of primary six and seven pupils entered the contest – six boys teams, five girls teams and three mixed teams. More than 100 young people took part.

Each game lasted five minutes and was refereed by Golspie High School senior pupils including Maisie Mackintosh, Lachie Roberts and Lorna MacRae.

Councillor Jim McGillivray (East Sutherland and Edderton), presented the awards to the winning teams, who were as follows: Girls: 1 Dornoch, 2 Lairg. Boys: 1 Dornoch, 2 Golspie. Mixed: 1 Helmsdale,

2 Rosehall.

The girls team from Lairg were runners-up. Pupils won medals for first and second place with all other pupils receiving a sticker.
