A lifeboat spokesperson provided an update to the incident at Thurso’s Victoria Walk this morning after a woman was reported to have fallen from a cliff.
A multi-agency emergency team attended an area near Victoria Walk and the casualty was treated by paramedics at the scene before the tide came in.
Ron Gunn, press officer for Thurso RNLI Lifeboat (The Taylors), said: “The Thurso lifeboat crew were paged at around 6.30am to respond to the report of a person falling from a cliff at Victoria Walk near the caravan park at Thurso.
“They set off immediately and got to the locus of the incident after which they launched the Y-boat with three ‘casualty care’ [advanced first aid] trained crew members. They went ashore and located the casualty at the bottom of the cliffs and proceeded to work on them.
“The coastguard search and rescue helicopter arrived and lowered a paramedic down the cliffs and the lifeboat crew members handed over to them. Because of the incoming tide, the helicopter lifted everyone to the top of the cliff.”
With the tide coming in, the emergency services had to act fast to bring the casualty and various personnel up onto Victoria Walk.
Apart from the lifeboat and coastguard teams, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel along with ambulance crew and police were also present at the scene overlooking Thurso Bay.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 6.15am on Friday, March 29, police received a report of concern for a woman at the cliffs in the Victoria Walk area of Thurso.
“Emergency services remain at the scene.”
A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: “We received a police request at 6.20 am this morning after reports that a person had gone over the cliff.
“This is a police incident.”
