The Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) has officially launched its new food larder, called the Community Bothy.

Christine Mackay, a deputy lieutenant on the county’s Lord Lieutenancy team, performed the honours by cutting a red ribbon on the door at a ceremony last Friday.

The spacious new larder is housed in a renovated storage shed sited next to KoSDT headquarters at Ardgay.

The spacious new larder, located next to the KoSDT headquarters at Drover’s Square, Ardgay, is housed in a former storage shed which originally belonged to the long demolished Lady Ross Hotel.

Funding for its renovation came from the Scottish Government.

As well as helping to alleviate food poverty, the new larder will address isolation with seating and a tea and coffee station provided to allow visitors to socialise.

KoSDT manager David Watson gave a short address to invited guests, as did Ms Mackay and project manager Beverley Hill.

Mr Watson said that the current cost of living rise meant the demand for the larder was greater than ever while Ms Mackay paid tribute the KoSDT for its work.
