Several hundred people including many families took part in Golspie Rowing Club's torchlight parade on New Year's Day.

They gathered at the former council offices on Main Street and walked from there along the promenade to the pier and the Seafront Centre.

A bonfire was lit at the pier and the torches were thrown into it. There was mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies for all. A fireworks display lit up the night sky.

The event was free to attend but there was a bucket collection and the rowing club has thanked all those who gave donations to help cover the running costs.

A club spokesperson said: "Club members felt that the torchlight parade was a great success and we are very proud to be able to put on events like this for the village."

Social media users were quick to praise the club and post their appreciation. Valerie Mackay wrote: "Fantastic and well done" while Myra Morrison posted: "Amazing. Well done and huge thanks to Golspie Rowing Club."
