They certainly know how to do things in style at Helmsdale Hub.

A Purple Day outing on March 21 saw hub users turn out at their glamorous best in all shades of the colour.

There was a joie de vivre to the occasion, with it being the first outing in a very long time, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The hub’s first Purple Day was held in 2020 and it was intended to be an annual event, but lockdown put a stop to that.

A 14-strong party stopped off first at Brora cafe Cocoa Skye, which opened specially for them, before heading to Clynelish Distillery Visitors Centre to enjoy cocktails and a sing song.

Purple Day is inspired by a poem by Jenny Joseph called Warning which starts off “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple”, and is about growing older with spirit and “naughtiness”.

Helmsdale Hub project lead Wendy Simmonds said: “That is what our day is about. We want to break down the stigma of growing older and show that it is fun to be a tad outrageous and age won’t stop that.

"We still hope to have this as an annual event and invite others to join us.”
