PICTURES: Golspie High School pupils recognised at prize-giving ceremonies

Golspie High School held its prize-giving over two sessions this year because of continuing concern over Covid-19. Separate awards ceremonies were held for S1-S3 pupils and for the senior classes S4-S6.

A spokesman for the 191-pupil school said: “It was fantastic to be able to recognise the achievements of pupils once again at an awards ceremony.”

School Dux was Viktoriya Kanashkova who also won the Dr John Mackay Memorial Prize in biology and in chemistry, the DK Macrae Memorial prize in mathematics and the Dr John Mackay Memorial prize in physics as well as the Harvard Book Prize, the Fraser Memorial Prize, the Helen Ryrie Memorial Medal and the Roach Trophy, as well as a subject prize in English.

Victoria shared the Bertie B Paul Memorial Prize in geography with Heather Dalton.

Proxime Accessit to the Dux was Scarlett Dawkins who also won the Sarah M Sutherland Memorial Prize for art and design; the Hugh MacPherson Memorial Prize in graphic communication and subject prizes in fashion, textiles and photography.

Meldola Award in Physical Education - James Morrison and Maisie Mackintosh.

Dorothy Forbes and David Whyte Shields (for the girl and boy who gave the most outstanding performance in school sports) - Lorna MacRae and Charlie Dunbar

The Houston Shield (for contribution and commitment to sport during six years in Golspie High School) - Eilidh Mackay and Sirena Whitehead

The Jessie Gordon (Melness) Prize (for the pupil who made the biggest overall contribution during their time at school) - Steffi Campbell

Fraser Gillies Memorial Trophy - Lennon Boyle
