Last month was a tough one weather-wise with high winds, rain, low temperatures and even snow on occasions.

But that did not stop supporters of East Sutherland Rotary Club’s February fundraiser from braving the outdoors.

The challenge requires participants to undertake sponsored walks, jogs or cycle rides throughout February, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the End Polio Now campaign.

Rotarians, members of Rotakids clubs and their family and friends all notched up the miles during the month, along with a number of dogs wearing special purple coats.

Rotary has been involved in a drive to end polio for the last 30 years with the East Sutherland club traditionally running a February swimarathon.

However the coronavirus pandemic meant the swimarathon could not be held, sparking the current challenge.

Club spokesman Alistair Risk thanked all who took part and said it was hoped to see polio eradicated worldwide by 2024.

The amount raised has still to be calculated.
