Railways was the theme of East Sutherland Camera Club’s February competition which was judged by club members who voted for their top images in the monochrome and colour classes.

Louise Mackay, Brora, was a clear winner in the colour category with her atmospheric study of the grimy work of maintenance on the Mayflower steam engine.

Louise Mackay’s Spit and Polish, right, was a “clear winner” in the colour category.

Second was Every Boy’s Ambition, a portrait of an engine driver framed by his cab window, by Andy Kirby, Dornoch. And third was Ghost Train, taken by Alan Butcher, Golspie and depicting a ghostly image of a steam train passing the historic Dunrobin Station.

In the monochrome class, Alan Butcher came first with Trailways – an appropriate title for his night time long exposure shot at Dunrobin station.

Louise MacKay came second with her The Old Goods Shed, a carefully worked compilation of the old goods shed at Brora with a steam train superimposed. Louise gained her hat trick in this composition with Fascination, again at Brora station
