It is his busiest time of year but Santa Claus put aside a few hours to pay a special trip to Lairg last Saturday.

He climbed aboard a red and gold sleigh decorated with snowflakes and was pulled round the village with his elves in tow, handing out gifts to local children along the way.

Everyone had a great time and Santa left some Christmas magic behind him.

His visit was hosted by Light Up Lairg who have organised a number of events in the village in the run-up to the turn of the year.

A Best Decorated House competition is under way with a £100 prize for the winner and £50 for the runner-up. A children’s drawing contest is also taking place with youngsters invited to upload their artworks to the Light up Lairg Facebook page by Tuesday, December 20.

Light Up Lairg is also running a New Year Dance at Lairg Community Centre on Sunday, January 1 from 7pm till late. Calum MacPhail - number one in iTunes country - will be performing.

The event has been sponsored by Lairg Community Council and the Anne Duchess of Westminster Fund.
