Brora Rangers director David Dowling said last Friday’s annual club dinner was the “biggest event to date” and was a great success.

He was pleased to announce that the event attracted 150 people and around £17,000 had been raised which will aid the club both on and off the field, as well as helping numerous projects across the local community.

He said: “The event was hugely successful, it was our biggest event to date in fact. We’ve done something like this for a number of years now but we haven’t seen anything on this scale before. We’ve broken our previous best event record by a couple of thousand pounds, easily.

“The event was so well received, we’ve already booked the hotel and country band again for next year!”

With the cost of running a football club increasing, Mr Dowling was delighted to announce that new initiatives would now become possible thanks to the money donated.

“The cost of heating the stadium, powering the floodlights and travelling by bus to away games have also just gone up and up. When we travel to Inverness for away games that money soon builds up nowadays. To get a financial hit like this, especially at the start of the season, is great for us.

“We’ve also put in a lot of work to the pitch and to the coaching team at the start of the season so it’s great to have the funding to continue doing that for the foreseeable future. There’s also a couple of community projects I know the club are interested in looking at, so it would be great to see where that ends up.”

With other community-led events set firmly on the horizon, Mr Dowling was looking forward to seeing the club’s finances grow even further.

“We’ve got more days planned which will help the community and our club even more in the future," he said. "The club’s hospitality runs most days when there’s a home game on. There’s always a good show for that, but the biggest events are always our annual club dinner, and our golf day, which is usually played on the first Friday in April. That was also a success this year.

“It’ll be great to see some more people turn up and support their local community club.”

Brora Rangers currently sit 6th in the Highland League and will be looking to continue their positive start to the season against Rothes on Saturday.
