A Sutherland community café has opened its doors for the first time since the pandemic struck in March 2020.
The relaunch of the Community Food Stop at Bonar Bridge Community Hall on Monday, March 14, was confined to invited guests only. However the café, which is managed by the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) is now operating as previously - every Monday from noon to 2pm.
KoSDT project manager Beverley Hill said: “Our wonderful Food Stop staff and volunteers were able to go ahead with an invitation-only café on March 14 to get back into the swing of things. The cafe is now properly reopened.”
Established in 2016, the Food Stop aims to make nutritious food available to all.
Beverley continued: “The café delivers healthy and affordable three-course meals to help those suffering from food insecurity and, more importantly, social isolation.
“All are welcome and meals are discounted with only voluntary payment required. Customers pay what they can afford and we do not ask them directly for payment in line with the Scottish Government’s Dignity principles to reduce feelings of embarrassment and stigmatisation.”
