THE biggest agricultural show in the north is officially under way.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the Black Isle Show, which opened at the Mannsfield Showground in Muir of Ord this afternoon.

Tomorrow is the show's main day with livestock judging, spectacular displays and an eclectic variety of competitions taking place.

The event is eagerly anticipated by the farming community across the north of Scotland and is also a hit with many looking for a family-friendly day out.

Visitors to the Black Isle Show will be able to use a free bus shuttle service to and from the station at Muir of Ord.

Highland Council's in-house bus team will be operating a shuttle minibus from Muir of Ord railway station to the showground on Thursday, August 3.

The bus will endeavour to meet all trains arriving at Muir of Ord from 8.30am and will continue to shuttle back and forth until late afternoon.

The service will be free of charge but there will be a collection box for MFR Cash for Kids should any passengers wish to make a donation.

Chair of the council’s economy and infrastructure committee, Cllr Ken Gowans, said: “Our in-house bus team stood in at short notice last month to help the organisers of the Highland Cross, so I am delighted they are once again able to step in to offer a free shuttle service.

“The show is a highlight of the year and very much a community event so our team were very keen to assist the organiser. The free service offers people the choice to leave their cars at home and to travel to Muir of Ord by train so I am sure the drivers will be kept busy throughout the day. Once again, the value of having an in-house service to serve the public has proved its worth.”
