A roadshow which is set to tour Scotland to provide information on peatland restoration projects and the funding available, is to visit a Sutherland venue.

The Peatland Restoration Roadshow kicks off its tour at Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway, next Monday, March 6, and will be on the road until it reaches Fort Augustus on Thursday, March 23.

It will visit Bonar Bridge Community Hall on Thursday, March 16 - the sole Sutherland venue to be included in the tour.

Freddie Ingleby, managing director of Caledonian Climate Partnership, will be at the Bonar Bridge peat restoration event.
Freddie Ingleby, managing director of Caledonian Climate Partnership, will be at the Bonar Bridge peat restoration event.

Led by the Caledonian Climate Partnership (CCP), the only dedicated peatland consultant in Scotland, the roadshow is supported by NatureScot and PeatlandACTION.

Peatland Action is a national programme led and funded by the Scottish Government to restore peatlands across Scotland. The programme manages £25 million committed by the government for the restoration of 250,000 acres of degraded peatland by 2030.

The roadshow is aimed at people with an interest in land management and nature restoration, including farmers, gamekeepers, estate advisers and the wider community.

CCP managing director Freddie Ingleby will be at the Bonar Bridge event and will talk about financing large-scale peatland restoration, blending grants with private funding and the benefits restoration brings.

Also in attendance will be Stephen Varwell, planning and communications manager for Peatland ACTION; and Tom Chetwynd of rural property consultancy service Chetwynd Rural.

Mr Ingleby said: “It can be daunting knowing why and how to undertake these projects, and we’d really like people of all ages from across roles and responsibilities in land management and the local community to come along to find out more about the challenges and opportunities of peatland restoration in Scotland.”

All events are free to attend and will be held from 5.30pm-8pm with refreshments, a Q&A, and time to talk informally at the end.
