'Outstanding quality' at Quoybrae anniversary sale

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday sold 913 store cattle at their anniversary show and sale.

Bullocks (416) averaged 293.6p or £1446.25 per head (+57.1p or +£300.27 on the year) and sold to 342.8p per kg for a pen of 404kg Charolais Crosses from East Murkle, Murkle and £2020 gross for a 722kg Limousin Cross from Brae Edge, Castletown.

Aberdeen-Angus Bullocks (43) averaged 304.2p or £1412.67 per head (+54.8p or +£373.36 on the year) and sold to 318.1p per kg for a pen of 448kgs and £1565 gross for a pen of 498kg from Backlass Croft, Watten.

Heifers (424) averaged 283.3p or £1307.55 per head (+49.1p or +£222.73 on the year) and sold to 359.3p per kg and £2120 gross for a 590kg British Blue Cross Tresdale, Canisbay.

Aberdeen-Angus Heifers (30) averaged 261.1p or £1195 per head (+40.7p or £155 on the year) and sold to 287.3p per kg and £1495 gross for a pair of 531kg from The Crofts, North Watten.

Champion in the Caithness Livestock Breeders and East Coast Viners sponsored show and sale, judged by Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly, was a 590kg British Blue Heifer from DG Kennedy, Tresdale, Canisbay and sold to £2120 to O Young, Nether Drumallochie, Glenkindie.

Reserve was a 590kg Limousin Cross Heifer from G Douglas, House Park, Bower and realised £1760 to J&JP Sim, Kincraig, Brechin.

“With 913 cattle sold, the buyers were not disappointed with the outstanding quality they were greeted with at the anniversary show and sale. Bullocks were up £300.27 on the year per head and heifers were also up £222.73 on the year, £2000 was crossed on two occasions – firstly with the champion realising £2120 from DG Kennedy, Tresdale for a 590kg heifer and secondly at £2020 for a 719kg heifer from DA Budge, Brae Edge, Castletown.”
