DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd yesterday sold 1001 store cattle and 19 adult head of breeding cattle.

Bullocks (626) averaged 235.4p per kg and sold to 298.7p per kg for a pair of 452kg Limousins from Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge and £1,590 gross 670kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Knockdee Farm, Halkirk.

Heifers (367) averaged 224.0p per kg and sold to 276.2p per kg for a pen of Wagyu crosses from Knockdee Farm, Halkirk and sold to £1,320 gross for a pen of Aberdeen Angus from 3 Dounie, Edderton.

Young Bulls (4) sold to £990 gross for a 465kg Limousin cross from Carnoch, Strathconon.

Rig (4) sold to £1,000 gross for a 485kg Beef Shorthorn from Killin Farm, Garve.

Breeding Cattle (19) sold to £1,800 gross for a Limousin bull from Trien Croft.

The verdict: “A very mixed offering of stores forward saw the heavy short keep cattle a grand trade. Angus bullocks too met an animated inquiry and many more could have been sold. Smaller long keep sorts would be harder to cash today as buyers are becoming wary of increased winter feed costs.”
