Pupils’ prowess at lightning-quick calculations has seen North West Sutherland Schools Group shine in a national maths competition.

The schools' group took 24th place in Scotland Rocks 2022 - a times table competition run by the app and learning platform Times Tables Rock Stars.

Holding up their Scotland Rocks 2022 certificates are the three pupils, all in secondary three at Kinlochbervie High School, who notched up the most correct answers in the North West Sutherland Schools Group.

The campus competed against other schools across Scotland from Tuesday-Friday, September 20-23 to answer as many multiplication and division questions as they could.

The winning school and class was based on the highest average number of correct answers per school.

A spokesman for North West Sutherland Schools Group said: “The competition was fierce with more than 167 schools and 548 classes taking part.

“Our school statistics were astonishing. On average our top class answered 482 questions correctly per pupil, with the best performing pupil answering an amazing 3,433 questions correctly.

“It was a great achievement for such a small school.”
