The North West Highlands Geopark is in "very good financial health", the chairman of its management team has said.

Dr Iain Young made his comments as he presented the financial report for the geopark, in the absence of treasurer Crawford Hunt, at its online AGM on Thursday.

The report shows that the geopark enjoyed an income of £213,625 in the last financial year, as compared to £127,000 in the previous year.

The money came from donations and legacies; charitable activities; other trading activities; and investment income.

Expenditure in the last financial year totalled £160,558.

Dr Young said: "In the financial year which ended earlier this year, our expenditure was up but our income was up – we were successful in attracting funding, primarily for our ACT (Access, Connect and Take Part) project.

"When you look through the accounts the charity is in very good financial health. Last year it was in good financial health and this year it is now in even better health."

He continued: "It has been another very, very good year for the geopark and the trading subsidiary, sometimes in difficult circumstances.

"None of this would be possible without the efforts of staff and volunteers across the geopark who all help to make this happen."

Those attending the AGM were told that the geopark grew its membership over the year by seven per cent and its 'friends network' by 17 percent. There were 1,603 views of its Rock Route on a podcast series on the Geotourist app.
