A festive greetings newsletter freely distributed in a north-west Sutherland village has raised a sum of £315 for the Scottish Air Ambulance service.

Greetings messages from people connected to Scourie were gathered together and printed in a 12-page newsletter which was then made available for free to people living in the village.

Companies and individuals were asked to donate £5 for the privilege of having their message included in the newsletter, with all cash raised being put towards a charity.

The greetings included festive wishes from businesses such as High Life Highland, Loch Duart Ltd, Sophisticuts and C MacLeod Engineering.

Aileen MacDonald, editor of the Scourie News, printed the newsletter using the facilities at Scourie & District Community Council.

Mrs MacDonald's son, Harvey, nominated the Scottish Air Ambulance service as this year's beneficiaries.

She said: "The idea was suggested as an alternative to sending Christmas cards around the village each year. The messages have come from regular visitors too, and ex-pats also contribute.

"As well as the newsletter, our local postie Sandra MacKay organised a charity named 'the elf scratch card' which raised an additional £50, bringing the total to £315."
