Caithness women's healthcare campaigners say they are "blown away" at being shortlisted in a Scotland-wide award scheme celebrating good practice and innovative self-management work.

North Highland Women’s Wellbeing Hub (NHWWH) is one of five organisations in the running for the Self Management in the Community accolade as part of the annual Self Management Awards hosted by Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland.

The winner will be decided by a public vote which is open at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/NDIDHE until Wednesday, September 6.

NHWWH is also one of three groups nominated for Empowering Self Management Project of the Year, with the winner of this award to be decided by a panel.

The hub is led by chairperson Kirsteen Campbell, vice-chairperson Rebecca Wymer and secretary/treasurer Claire Clark.

Ms Wymer said: "All three of us are blown away with being shortlisted for one of these awards, never mind two!

"The hub was only established a year ago and we are thrilled to be reaching so many people.

"Self-management, support and education are at the core of what we do, so to have that recognised nationally is fantastic.

"We wish the other nominees the very best. All of the projects are amazing, so please do check them out too.

"To vote, all you need is an email address. No names are taken and the submissions go directly to the alliance."

All the shortlisted projects were invited to submit a brief description of their work to help the public make a choice.

The NHWWH submission states: "The hub is an entirely volunteer-led lived experience non-profit group which is raising awareness for women’s health in the Highlands and campaigning for health improvements around women’s health. Under the hub they run four support groups for endometriosis, menopause, period health and general women’s health, with over 600 members.

"It is a little community for women in the north offering safe spaces for women to really be themselves, tackling inequalities, isolation, loneliness and taboo subjects.

"In just a year they have run a number of awareness-raising campaigns, organised a Women's Wellness Festival, engaged in cross-party groups and been featured on the Scottish evening news."
