A RELAXING time was had by all who attended North Coast Connection’s "Positively Pampered" event at the Kyle Centre, Tongue, on November 29.

The day proved to be a welcome treat after a year when the majority of social events were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fiona Macfarlane from Bettyhill generously volunteered her time and started the event with a meditation session followed by affirmations.

Kyle Centre manager Sarah Beveridge worked her magic by giving reiki and foot massage treatments in the centre’s newly erected outdoor cabin.

Staff had worked hard to turn it into a cosy retreat, creatively decorated it with inspiring quotes, cosy cushions and throws, a rock salt lamp, oil diffuser, dainty fairy lights and bunting.

Between treatments Fiona offered several activities including decorating gratitude jars, making essential oil room sprays and scented tea bags, while centre support worker Fiona Burnett gave ideas for mindful journaling.

A delicious lunch of Tuscan soup and a healthy wholewheat wrap with homemade hummus, spinach, cheese and beetroot was prepared by cook, Mey Sandison.

All those attending went home with a goody bag.

Describing her experience on the day Carol Proctor from Rhitongue said, “The atmosphere was so relaxing, the foot massage utterly delightful and Mey’s lunch was really filling.”

Jane Mackay from Melness enjoyed the same treatment and remarked afterwards, “I feel like I’m walking on air! It was an excellent day from which a lot of benefits were had.

“A very nice lunch give us a chance to catch up with friends. I felt very safe as Covid rules were observed. I hope we can have another one during the winter.”

Nadine Aikman from Melness said, “It’s great that we have so many local people with these skills to offer this service. The quality of the experience was amazing.”

North Coast Connection, which runs the Kyle Centre, has said it will not be holding its usual Christmas party this year due to Covid-19. However the centre is planning delivering Christmas dinner to centre users at their own homes.

Meanwhile, staff are busy planning a number of wellbeing events which are scheduled to be held early in 2022.

There is a foot care service currently available at the centre. Anyone interested should call 01847 611392 for further information.
