Caithness-born chef Grant Macnicol will be showing some of his skills at this weekend's Taste North food and drink festival in Wick.

He is due to give two demonstrations in the Taste North Cookery Theatre as part of the event at the East Caithness Community Facility.

It will run from 11am to 4.30pm on Sunday and will feature a range of food, drink and craft exhibitors as well as a cocktail demonstration and the Taste North Challenge.

Grant has worked in a number of prestigious restaurants and hotels in Scotland, including Dornoch Castle Hotel where he was head chef. Now he is a private chef, catering for dinner parties, shooting weekends, weddings and events.

His first demonstration on Sunday is scheduled for 11.30am when he will be preparing Ice and Fire gin-cured salmon with textures of cucumber and pea foam.

Grant will take centre stage again at 2.30pm, this time with a mystery bag of ingredients in the style of TV's Ready, Steady, Cook.

Mr C's cocktails will also feature in the Taste North Cookery Theatre at 1pm.

There will be family activities with Messy Nessy in the gym hall up until 4pm.

Those entering the Taste North Challenge will be asked to create an innovative new baking product that must contain at least one "hero" ingredient.

Taste North is part of a series of food and drink events and activities in Caithness and Sutherland supported by Venture North, the destination management organisation that promotes responsible tourism in the far north.

Taste North was last held in October 2019, at John O'Groats. Acclaimed French chef Jean-Christophe Novelli was the special guest on that occasion as he conducted three demonstrations in the Taste North Cookery Theatre.

Details of how to enter the Taste North Challenge are on the Venture North website and applications must be in by Friday.

In 2019 the Taste North Challenge winners were Katie Carlisle (11) in the youth category and Jodie Wilson in the open category. Jodie was crowned overall winner.
