THE Highlands have recorded just one positive test for Covid-19 in the past week, according to the latest data.

The Scottish Government's daily update revealed that there have been no newly-confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the NHS Highland health board area for the past two days.

Prior to one confirmed case in Sunday's update, the region had gone four days without any fresh positive tests – meaning that only that single Sunday case was detected in NHS Highland over the last seven days.

NHS Highland has recorded 375 positive tests for the virus since the pandemic began – although the true figure is thought to be much higher, and health experts have warned the public to stay alert to the dangers and continue to take full social distancing precautions.

And, while it registered no new cases yesterday, the number of people receiving treatment in NHS Highland hospitals for Covid-19 rose by one, to six.

News that the area had gone another day without a freshly-reported case came as Scotland as a whole registered 10 new positive tests to take its overall tally to 18,251.

Sadly there were also three newly-confirmed fatalities among those who had tested positive, to raise the death toll among confirmed Covid-19 cases to 2485. The deaths ended a four-day period without any confirmed coronavirus fatalities in Scotland.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, the health boards for Grampian (1419 positive tests), Orkney (nine), Shetland (54) and Eileanan Siar (seven), all recorded no new confirmed cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.

NHS Tayside, meanwhile, reported one additional case to take its overall total to 1769.
