Nicola Sinclair gains senior appointment with Focus North

Focus North has expanded its management team with the appointment of Nicola Sinclair from Wick, who has joined as business development manager.

Nicola, joins from the Press and Journal and her background includes serving as a Highland councillor, where she was chair of the Caithness Committee, which consolidated her interest in politics, community and economic sustainability.

She has a background in journalism, starting out with an Edinburgh publisher and going on to edit business and education magazines for clients across the UK. Nicola also worked as a development manager for Channel 4, helping to support the TV and digital sector and promote the network to stakeholders.

Nicola’s experience will strengthen Focus North’s ability to develop and communicate key opportunities in the area. Her new role will include securing and developing commercial opportunities, including working with multiple stakeholders to attract inward investment opportunities, and she will support the Focus North team to expand the working population, and grow the number of private sector businesses operating locally.

Programme manager, Peter Faccenda, said: “We are planning for huge regional growth at Focus North and with that has come an important new team update.

“Nicola’s appointment allows us to provide further support to the area and bring home complex developments that create a sustainable region, providing a healthy and economically stable environment.

“These are exciting times for the region as we continue to deliver opportunities that will benefit the local communities and Scotland.”

Business development manager, Nicola Sinclair, said: “As a Caithness native and mother, I am excited to work with the Focus North team to reverse population decline and create fulfilling jobs for the next generation.

“In previous roles, I enjoyed working with communities and found it to be the most rewarding part of my job. Joining Focus North will allow me to continue this work.”

Focus North says it "will drive opportunities that shape our future" and deliver transformational initiatives to ensure the north of Scotland generates growth, drives economic diversity, and leads the low carbon economy.

Partners include the Caithness Chamber of Commerce, Dounreay Site Restoration Limited, Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Skills Development Scotland, the Scottish Government and the University of Highlands and Islands.

These organisations have all committed to developing a fairer, resilient, more balanced economy in the North.

Focus North has recently published its, Focus North for a Sustainable Future programme, which outlines ongoing initiatives across renewable energy, the space industry, the natural environment, and nuclear decommissioning. It provides an overview of all opportunities in development supported by Focus North and its partners.
