Fiona Davies NHS Highland has been appointed the new chief executive of NHS Highland.

NHS Highland has announced that Fiona Davies has been appointed to succeed Pamela Dudek as the next chief executive of NHS Highland.

Ms Dudek announced her retiral earlier this year after two years in office following a period of considerable uncertainty with a revolving door of chief executives coming in and leaving.

Ms Davies will have a large inbox when she takes up her post on 1 April next year with renewed allegations of bullying haunting the health board.

She is currently chief officer of Argyll and Bute health and social care partnership (HSCP), prior to which she headed-up NHS Highland’s mental health services.

A registered mental health nurse, she has three decades of experience in clinical, professional leadership, operational and strategic management roles.

Ms Davies has worked for NHS Highland since 2012 and has a particular interest in remote and rural delivery of health and social care services. She lives in Lochaber with her family.

Chairwoman Sarah Compton-Bishop welcomed the appointment, saying: “Fiona has been an excellent leader of Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership, demonstrating vision, skill and empathy.

"I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.”

Ms Davies said: “It is hugely exciting to be offered the opportunity to lead NHS Highland. I am passionate about delivering the best possible care in the Highlands and Argyll and Bute, and working with our amazing teams and communities to do that.

"While I have lots of contacts in the area already, I will enjoy getting out and about to meet as many people as possible.”

Recruitment to the Argyll and Bute HSCP chief officer post will take place in due course.
