Brora paid tribute to its war dead at the village’s annual New Year’s Day wreath laying ceremony.

Local resident Morag Sutherland was invited to lay the community wreath by event organisers, Friends of Clyne War Memorial Association.

It was a particularly poignant moment for Mrs Sutherland, members of whose family fought in World War I.

Two of her antecedents fought with the Canadian Expeditionary Force after emigrating to Winnipeg. Alexander Sutherland was killed in 1915 and Kenneth Sutherland died in 1919 from tuberculosis.

Sutherland Lord Lieutenant Dr Monica Main attended the war memorial ceremony along with her cadet, Hunter Ross.

Piper Danny Parkin played a lament from the top of the war memorial before and after the ceremony.

Sixty men and one woman from the parish gave their lives in WWI.
