A NEW book "Walker’s Guide to Coigach & Assynt" has been officially launched and is now available from the North West Highland Geopark’s online shop and various outlets within the geopark.

The book explores 26 walks selected by the local community with over 110 stunning colour photographs, maps for each route, and information about the local history and geology.

The book was written by well-known photographer Dougie Cunningham, an outdoor lover and adventurer

The walks range from short strolls to mountain adventures - so there’s something for everyone. It also includes a foreword by mountaineer Sir Chris Bonnington.

The book was written by well-known photographer Dougie Cunningham, an outdoor lover and adventurer, on behalf of the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape.

It was produced collaboratively by various local groups, including the geopark, and made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, and the Garfield Weston Trust.

Mr Cunningham writes on his Leading Lines website: "It was an incredible project – one of those jobs you love from start to finish.

"I had the opportunity to work with geologists from the Geopark, and consult with local historians, and the result is a guidebook that is more than just a collection of walking routes.

"This is without doubt one of the most beautiful areas in Scotland and I hope the guide will help develop an appreciation of the landscape."
