Kerry, who lives in Ardgay, is combining her new role in CAB with running her own community tea room – Nanny’s Tea Rooms in Bonar Bridge – and with the life of a goat farmer/smallholder.

She gained a post graduate diploma in urban design in 2007, having already achieved a BSc in architectural conservation in 2003.

Kerry worked with Highland Council as a conservation officer from 2009 to 2016 and was employed in a similar role by Erewash Borough Council in Derbyshire from 2004 to 2009.

Friederike (Frieda) is an undergraduate with the Open University studying law and with the University of the Highlands and Islands, where she is studying rural community development. She has also studied classics at the University of Rostock, Germany.

She has worked in a variety of occupations across Scotland, including agriculture, food manufacture, retail and hospitality, since coming to the country in 2017.

ESCAB manager Phil Carr said: “I am delighted that we have been able to recruit such outstanding people for the posts, which will see Friederike and Kerry each work three days a week in the bureau, dividing their time between outreach and office-based casework.

“I have no doubt they will make significant contributions to the excellent team we already have.”

Mr Carr added that Kerry and Friederike would be running outreach sessions weekly in five East Sutherland communities as follows:

Brora Library: Monday 2pm-4pm

Helmsdale Community Centre: Tuesday 9.30am-10.30am

Dornoch Hub: Wednesday 10am-12pm

Lairg Community Centre: Thursday 9am-10.30am

Bonar Bridge: Thursday 11.30am-1.30pm

ESCAB offers drop-in services, telephone, email and face to face appointments. To contact the bureau, ring 01408 633000, or email: advice@ecscab.org.uk

ESCAB is also accepting applications from volunteers.
