Brora resident Elizabeth Sweetman has taken over the reins as president of the Rotary Club of East Sutherland.
An official handover ceremony was held last week at a special supper at Royal Dornoch Golf Club when outgoing president Linda Graham handed over the chain of office to her successor
Ms Sweetman will serve in the role for another year and in accepting it, she said she hoped to see the club’s membership grow as communities recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
Under her leadership the club will also continue to work with a large number of organisations and individuals in the county.
One of her first events will be the fundraising fete at Dunrobin Castle on Sunday, July 3.
The club’s vice-president is Michelle Johnstone.
Veteran Rotarian and club spokesman Alistair Risk said: “At the start of this century, Rotary was still a predominately male dominated organisation with perhaps 10 male members for every one woman.
“Today the Rotary Club of East Sutherland is not unusual in having more women members than men.”
Formed in 1989, the club covers as far inland as Lairg.
It fundraises on behalf of local good causes, running regular events such as the popular Duck Race in Brora, a Coast to Coast car tour and a swimarathon in aid of End Polio.
The club has been responsible for establishing RotaKids clubs in schools throughout its area, in a bid to pass on Rotarian values and a commitment to service to young people.
