New name for Dounreay after Magnox rebranding

Dounreay has undergone a change of name while emphasising that the focus at the site will remain on "safe, secure and sustainable" decommissioning.
The new branding incorporates Nuclear Restoration Services and this is featured prominently on a signpost outside the site. Dounreay's social media accounts have been renamed accordingly as NRS Dounreay.
The site issued a statement outlining the background to the change.
"Following the joining of Dounreay with Magnox in April, the company that used to be Magnox Ltd has changed its branding and from October 31, 2023, will be known as Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS)," it said. "The Dounreay site will be part of this change but will still be known as Dounreay and will be a division of NRS, contributing high-quality decommissioning locally.
"This is more than a change of sign. It is a demonstration of the organisation we want to be – delivery-focused, transformative, innovative and growing.
"NRS is responsible for safely decommissioning the first generation nuclear and research sites across the UK and restoring the sites for all our futures. Our new brand strategy represents the joining together of the Magnox sites and Dounreay.
"It also prepares us to welcome the seven advanced gas-cooled reactor sites (AGRs), currently managed by EDF, for decommissioning, as well as other sites that may join us in the future.
"The change in name helps focus on the future by investing in our workforce, assets, communities, sites and surrounding landscapes to ensure we leave a sustainable nuclear legacy. While our brand may be changing, our focus on safely decommissioning our nuclear sites remains the same."
Dounreay managing director Mark Rouse said: “NRS Dounreay will continue to deliver the safe, secure and sustainable decommissioning of the Dounreay site. We have continued to demonstrate that we can innovate successfully, removing the remainder of the bulk radioactive sodium from the Prototype Fast Reactor, and deploying a robotic ‘dog’ to go into radioactive spaces, saving our workforce from hazards.
"Our stakeholders and the wider community are essential to our business and NRS Dounreay will be proud to continue to fulfil our socio-economic obligations through our various funds and work in the local area. Dounreay Communities Fund recently donated £1000 to Thurso Netball Club to help them buy new inclusive strips and every year the staff raise thousands of pounds for local charities, including Caithness Foodbank, Listening Ear and Caithness FM Christmas Toy Appeal.”
