In the new video, published on the Spirit of the Highlands website, Stuart MacKellar from LDN Architects, shows viewers features that are new and old.

These include stone flag floors, a stone vaulted arch ceiling, the impressive arch door at the main entrance, and old walls from the prison.

Many artefacts have also been found, like a clay pipe bowl which has carvings of the Prince of Wales’ feathers, thistles and other floral motifs.

Professionals across different trades are being brought in to methodically research the history of these discoveries. Karen Dundas, of Scottish Wall Painting Conservators, is peeling back the layers of paint in the building to reveal more information about how some areas had been decorated at the time of its construction more than 180 years ago.

Mr MacKellar also discusses the new purposes the rooms will have, as one old court turns into a function room.

The castle project is supported by £15 million from the Scottish Government and £3 million from the UK government.

It will house a retail space, café, function rooms, a gallery and event spaces.
