Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) is set to officially open its new community food larder "The Community Bothy" at Ardgay next Friday, March 4.

Christine Mackay, Sutherland deputy lord lieutenant, will perform the honours.

The new larder is larger and has more facilities than the previous space it occupied at the Barn in the centre of the village.

The larder will continue to offer food that has been donated by Community Food Initiatives North East (CFine)

There is now a new seating area where people can enjoy coffee, tea and some social interaction.

The larder will continue to offer food that has been donated by Community Food Initiatives North East (CFine) and it is open to anyone in the community who can make use of it.

KoSDT manager David Watson updated members of Creich Community Council about the new facility at their virtual meeting last week.

He said: “The wee food larder we have replaced was basically just a tool shed but last year it was visited by 3414 adults and 802 children.”

He added that he wished it were not the case, but the current cost of living crisis was driving up demand for the service. The new larder began operating last Friday.
