The new post, funded by the Community Regeneration Fund, will see local man take the reigns of the Trust’s Visitor Information Point in the centre of Brora.

Prior to his appointment, Mr McLeod (21) worked for three seasons as an information officer at the Heritage Centre in Brora and prior to that, at Cocoa Skye.

Local man Odhran McLeod is passionate about his home village and is keen to be part of its future development.

He said: “I am thrilled to be part of the Brora Development Trust team and to have taken up the role of visitor information officer. Brora is my home and where I want to live and work. To be able to help visitors discover all the local area has to offer is a great pleasure. My previous experience with Brora Heritage Centre will undoubtedly help me in this role.”

As part of his professional development and shared learning and exchange between organisations involved with community tourism, Odhran has spent time with the Visit Scotland team at their ICentre in Inverness. He has also visited the independent information centre, Loch Ness Hub, in Drumnadrochit.

Brora’s new Visitor Information Point is based at the Trust’s arts and crafts social enterprise, Otter’s Couch. The Otter’s Couch is run as a not-for-profit initiative by the Trust and provides earning opportunities for over 40 local artists and crafters.

The Information Point provides a welcoming experience for visitors who are looking for information about Brora and the area.

The overall aim of the project is to support local businesses, Brora people and the economy, by encouraging visitors to spend more time in and around the village, recommending it as a destination of choice to friends and family.

A What’s On board is available inside the Information Point for anyone wishing to display information about a local event or a local business.

A community calendar is also now on display in the information point to signpost visitors and locals to local events.

Brora Development Trust is a registered Scottish charity (SC043968) whose function is to address social, economic, environmental and cultural issues in Brora and District and enable the community to play a bigger role in shaping its own future.
