A new sign for a rather exotic animal has appeared in the NC500 hotspot village of Ullapool.

The sign, spotted by a local person today, is on the A835 at Braes, just outside the village. Appearing below a ‘Beware Children Crossing’ sign, the new road sign features the silhouete of a gorilla within a red border.

Squirrels, deer, otters and sheep are native to the area… but there are no known sightings sightings of gorillas!

It is unclear what the sign communicates – but one guess is that it means Gorilla Crossing. It is also unclear where the sign came from, and how long it will remain.

Another simian made headlines earlier this year when it went on the run from the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig.
