Pupils at Golspie Primary have been awarded the RSPB Wild Challenge Bronze Award.

During the last year, the P4/5 class and their teacher Lindsay Macdonald have been working hard to “give nature a home".

Pupils from p4-5 plant saplings along the fenceline of the school grounds.

They have been planting trees, taking part in recording bird and insect species, providing food for wildlife and studying biodiversity at Loch Fleet, as well as going on plant safaris and pond dipping.

RSPB volunteer Gill Hambling wrote to the children congratulating them on their achievement

She said: “Thank you for your amazing efforts. Every action you take makes a real difference.

Head teacher Simon Scott thanked staff and volunteers who helped the children in their project.

He said:“Living where we do, we can sometimes take nature for granted. It is so important that our pupils learn that each of us as individuals have such an important part to play in giving nature a hand.”

The pupils are now looking forward to achieving the Wild Challenge Silver Award.
