We've noticed a slight trend on our film of the week segment towards things being blown up as loudly as possible. This week, we rectify this growing issue with a talking dog and his human pal going through time without a blue police box.
Mr Peabody & Sherman
Release: February 7
Starring: Ty Burrell, Max Charles
Synopsis: Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman, use their time machine - The WABAC - to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes The WABAC out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidentally rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history. Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time traveling trio will make their mark on history.
Why You Should See It: Mr Peabody and Sherman might not be known to us limey Brits, but in America they're practically an institution – their educational historical shorts during the sixties' Rocky and Bullwinkle Show remain much loved across the Atlantic. You'll probably recognise them however from The Simpsons' parody reference of them in “Treehouse Of Horror V” (aka: the one where Homer wrecks causality with a time-travelling toaster. Y'know, when The Simpsons was good).
It's going to be good – Dreamworks have been crafting reliably entertaining animation works for all the family since Antz in 1998 (feel old NOW). And with the history behind it, there's little doubt that Peabody and Sherman are going to be treated with the respect that such US institutions deserve. Bring the kids and have a great time. Time TRAVEL that is, ha ha ha! Oh, forget it.
