With a date just announced at the Ironworks for Saturday, December 28, it’s been over 20 years since Slam duo Orde Meikle and Stuart Macmillan set out as genre-busting DJs to massive dance brand.

They have defined techno in Scotland, cultivated many artists of note on their Soma label, and remixed everyone from Josh Wink and Paul Ritch to Daft Punk and Underworld.

They are also the proud owners of Soma Records which continues to be one of the world’s leaders in cutting-edge electronic music.

Recent releases have included singles and remixes from artists including Gary Beck, The Black Dog, Deepchord, Ricardo Villalobos, Joris Voorn, Silicone Soul, Surgeon, Loco Dice, Mark Henning, Nick Curly, Matthias Tanzmann, Pig & Dan, Pan-Pot, Carl Craig, Radio Slave and Sebo K. They also create weekly broadcast Slam Radio which showcases their techno and club DJ mixes, and also mixes and music from their peers and contemporaries, which has become the biggest techno radio show on Soundcloud.

Dr Feelgood will play the Ironworks in March.

Dr Feelgood – due to play the Ironworks on Friday, March 14 next year – were formed on Canvey Island in Essex in the early 70s. And despite the sad death of amazing frontman Lee Brilleaux – the band continues to be a vibrant live rhythm and blues experience.

They burst onto the world with their debut album Stupidity going straight to number one and hit singles including Roxette, Back In The Night, Milk And Alcohol, Down At The Doctors, She Does It Right, Going Back Home and See You Later Alligator – which gave the group their first gold record.

The current line up features vocalist Robert Kane (formerly of the Animals).

The rhythm section has Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass – both 29 years in the band and Steve Walwyn on guitar, who has been with the band for 23 years.

Recent releases include a DVD: Live in London and CD Repeat Prescription, a collection of some of the band’s songs performed with a fresh approach.

Julien Temple’s film Oil City Confidential released in 2010 tells the story of the band’s early years.

May 2011 saw the digitally re-mastered re-release of Chessmasters originally out in 2000 on EMI Records, the band’s tribute to the Chess label, home to many of the finest blues artists of the 20th century and the first Dr Feelgood album to feature Robert on vocals.
