May the north be with you.

Sutherland may have played its part in the latest Star wars blockbuster.

For Scotland is set for another movie tourism boom after it was revealed that some of the filming for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was done north of the border.

According to film magazine Empire, Scotland was among a list of locations for the blockbuster that also includes Ireland, Abu Dhabi and the USA.

The magazine has had access to the movie's director JJ Abrams and cast, including Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill for its latest issue.

In an online feature, Star Wars: The Force - Everything you need to know?, Empire has listed Scotland among the UK and international locations used.

There had previously been rumours the production came north for filming. Now it has been confirmed.

But Empire's article does not say where in Scotland filming was done. However it was likely to have been in the Highlands.

It says:"Shooting has taken place in the UK at Pinewood Studios; at RAF Greenham Common; and in Scotland. Three days shooting took place at Skellig Michael Island off the coast of Ireland’s County Kerry, and there have also been locations in Abu Dhabi, New Mexico, and the Krafla volcano in Iceland. Plus there’s been some work underway at Abrams’ Bad Robot facility in Santa Monica."

Other major productions, such as Ridley Scott's Prometheus, have been shot on Skye while Sam Mende's Bond flick Skyfall was partly shot in Glen Coe.

Film director Justin Kurzel also chose the Isle of Skye as the main filming location for his new and much-anticipated film Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

The Star Wars film will be released in cinemas later this month.
