Ms Todd said: “Golspie has experienced an increase in the number of flooding events recently due to rising sea levels and more frequent storms.

“This is having an impact on seafront properties and local businesses including the kart club, caravan park, and golf club. It also presents a risk to the operation and safety of the A9, which passes through the village.

“In bringing together stakeholders, particularly those with expertise in flood defence, I hope we can identify potential preventative measures to help protect the local community.”

The stakeholder meeting will take place on Monday, April 22, with local councillors and representatives from Highland Council, Transport Scotland, SEPA and NatureScot in attendance.

Ms Todd added: “While short-term solutions are needed to mitigate the immediate impact on local properties and businesses, this meeting is an opportunity to discuss a more long-term, strategic approach to flood defence in the village.

“Given the recent rise in flood events, I believe there is a heightened sense of urgency which requires us to work at pace.

“I hope that in bringing the right people to the table, we can build on the efforts of the Golspie Flood Defence Group and make some progress.”
