Fears that Dornoch might be set to lose its Highland Council service point have been laid to rest.

However, a move is in the offing for the facility which is currently housed on the ground floor of Dornoch Courthouse.

East Sutherland and Edderton ward councillor Jim McGillivray said at last month's Dornoch Area Community Council meeting: "As far as I am aware the service point is staying in Dornoch.

"At the moment the (Highland Council) are looking for alternative premises because they have to vacate the existing unit."

Cllr McGillivray said that under discussion was moving the service point to either the public library on the High Street or to the former police station which is being transformed to a community hub.

"An option appraisal is being carried out," he said.

Community councillor Graeme Ross felt the library would be the better choice because it was closer to the town centre.
